É comum ver veículos preparados para um off-road mais radical, com bagageiros no teto. Normalmente, são usados para que sejam fixados faróis auxiliares, já que no alto ficam mais protegidos contra a sujeira, e até para o acompanhante, o famoso “Zequinha”, poder se “agarra” nas laterais para ajudar a desatolar o carro, por exemplo.

Como um jipe tem um porta-malas muito pequeno, é comum também ver pessoas que usam esses bagageiros para levar o que não cabe dentro do veículo. Até aí tudo bem, afinal eles foram feitos para isso. Mas, é bom lembrar que um 4×4 já é alto (e tem gente que o deixa ainda mais alto), e colocar mais coisas no teto faz o centro de gravidade subir, o que deixa o veículo mais suscetível a tombar.

Por isso, só use esse recurso em último caso e, ainda assim, colocando no máximo uns 20 quilos. Se tiver que andar fora de estrada nessas condições, fique mais atento ainda, pois as chances de tombar, com mais peso na capota, são maiores.
